GPU Low Power Engineer
QualcommJob Title
GPU Low Power Engineer
Role Summary
Engineer on the Adreno GPU team responsible for power estimation, implementation, verification, and minimization across GPU cores and associated SoC flows. Work with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, power and area and to develop methodology and automation for low-power GPU design.
Experience Level
Entry / Early-career - typically 1β3 years of relevant experience in ASIC, hardware, firmware, or systems engineering.
Responsibilities
Accountable for power-related engineering activities across GPU design and integration stages.
- Perform power analysis and estimation for GPU cores and SoC use cases.
- Implement and verify power-optimization changes at RTL and synthesis stages.
- Develop and refine methodology and flows for power estimation, implementation, and verification.
- Analyze performance, power, and thermal behavior and identify optimization opportunities.
- Model performance, power and area trade-offs to guide architectural and design decisions.
- Contribute to SoC implementation methodology and semi-custom design flows.
Requirements
Core technical skills and practical experience required for the role.
- Practical experience with ASIC design methodology and low-power optimization techniques.
- Experience with RTL development and simulation; familiarity with SystemVerilog preferred.
- Scripting and automation experience on Linux (Tcl, Python, Perl) for tool flows and analysis.
- Familiarity with synthesis tools, static timing analysis, and formal verification concepts.
- Understanding of power-minimization techniques such as clock gating, power gating, and multi-VT design.
- Experience with power-intent design and verification (isolation, level shifters, retention) and related design flows.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational skills, and effective communication.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with power analysis tools such as PowerArtist or PrimeTime PX.
- GPU architecture experience, power/performance modeling, or thermal optimization background.
- Experience interacting with senior leadership and driving cross-team initiatives.
- Semi-custom SoC design flow and methodology experience.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (with related work experience). Alternate paths: Master's degree in a related field (with reduced experience requirement) or PhD in a related field are accepted. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of formal degree credentials; advanced degrees (Master's/PhD) are preferred.
