Job Title

Gate-level SigEM/SEB/FIT CAD Engineer

Role Summary

As a member of Apple's CAD Group, you will help develop and maintain electromigration (EM), Statistical Electromigration Budgeting (SEB), Failure In Time (FIT), and thermal analysis methodologies and flows for gate‑level and transistor‑level designs. The role supports IP/SOC signal EM analysis, FIT budgeting, power‑grid EM checks, and CAD flow automation and verification.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early Career - suitable for recent BS/MS graduates or candidates with internship/co‑op experience. Years of experience not specified.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in development, testing, and deployment of EM/SEB/FIT/thermal analysis methodologies and flows.
  • Support automation, maintenance, and regression testing of CAD flows from setup through sign‑off.
  • Run, validate, and debug simulation and verification runs on benchmark and production designs.
  • Develop and maintain verification scripts and rule checks for clock trees, high‑speed data paths, and critical nets.
  • Triage flow execution issues and gather data to support cross‑functional teams (Physical Design, Timing, Circuit Design, Power).

Requirements

Must-have skills and attributes:

  • Strong engineering fundamentals in electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Willingness and ability to learn EM, SEB, FIT, self‑heating (SHE), and thermal analysis concepts.
  • Ability to validate and debug simulation/verification runs and CAD flows.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, motivation, and ability to work under mentorship.
  • Good collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred (nice-to-have):

  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (Tcl, Python, Perl).
  • Foundation in VLSI design, semiconductor physics, circuit theory, static timing analysis, SPICE, parasitic extraction, or physical design principles.
  • Familiarity with commercial EDA tools (e.g., Voltus, RedHawk, PrimeTime, ICC2, Innovus, SPICE simulators).
  • Prior internship, co‑op, or academic research experience in VLSI design, CAD/EDA flow development, or chip reliability.
  • Interest or coursework in AI/ML applications in CAD/EDA workflows.

Education Requirements

BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Science). Preferred background includes VLSI design, semiconductor physics, or related coursework. Prior internship/co‑op or academic research experience is advantageous.
