FPGA Prototyping Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Provide pre-sale and post-sale technical support for Synopsys HAPS FPGA-based prototyping products, working with customers to map large ASIC designs to FPGA hardware, resolve timing and bring-up issues, and improve prototyping flows.
Member of the HAPS Application Engineering team supporting global customers, collaborating with sales and R&D to improve product quality and deployment practices.
Experience Level
Senior - requires substantial experience (typical guidance: Master's +8 years or Bachelor's +10 years of relevant experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include customer-facing prototyping, technical evaluations, and improving prototyping methodology and tools.
- Provide pre-sale evaluations and post-sale technical support for HAPS hardware and ProtoCompiler software.
- Prototype multi-million gate ASIC designs: partitioning, synthesis, system planning, and RTL debug.
- Diagnose and resolve timing-closure and performance issues on FPGA platforms, especially Xilinx Ultrascale/Versal.
- Conduct on-site product evaluations, prototype bring-up, and critical issue troubleshooting.
- Develop training materials, application notes, and technical articles from deployment experience.
- Collaborate with R&D to escalate product issues and propose feature or flow improvements.
- Automate customer workflows and flows using TCL and Python scripting.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted where applicable.
- Hands-on experience mapping complex ASIC designs to FPGA-based prototypes and delivering working prototypes to customers.
- Deep knowledge of digital design and RTL (VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog) and experience with synthesis and simulation flows.
- Proven ability to debug FPGA designs and manage complex timing constraints on modern Xilinx devices.
- Strong scripting skills in TCL and Python for automation and flow development.
- Experience working directly with customers in technical support, field applications, or consulting roles.
- Ability to communicate tradeoffs, set expectations, and document solutions clearly.
- Familiarity with Synopsys verification tools (VCS, Verdi, VC Formal) - preferred.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent practical experience. (No specific field of study was specified.)
