FPGA IP Design Engineer - Intern
AlteraJob Title
FPGA IP Design Engineer - Intern
Role Summary
Work within the IP Systems and Solutions Engineering (IPSS) team to develop and verify configurable FPGA IP cores (memory interfaces, chip-to-chip interfaces, and high-speed transceivers) and their integration with Quartus Prime CAD tools.
Tasks include architecture and RTL design, verification, CAD/tool integration, simulation models, documentation, and support for device bring-up and product releases.
Experience Level
Entry-level intern. This posting expects candidates currently pursuing undergraduate studies; the position is suitable for students with limited industry experience.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include the following:
- Define architecture and design based on protocol specifications for memory, chip-to-chip, or transceiver interfaces.
- RTL development and implementation (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL).
- Device support and CAD tool integration with Quartus Prime.
- Develop and run verification IP, simulation models, bus functional models, and regression tests.
- Hardware power-on, bring-up, and debug.
- Support new product releases, rollouts, and customer technical issues.
- Create design examples, simulation models, and technical documentation.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience. Education requirements are listed separately below.
- Must-have: Working knowledge of RTL development and digital logic design (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL); familiarity with scripting or programming (C/C++, Python).
- Must-have: Basic understanding of verification methodologies and simulation.
- Nice-to-have: FPGA design experience, RTL simulation, static timing analysis (STA) and timing closure experience.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with memory interfaces (DDR5, LPDDR5, HBM), high-speed transceivers, or chip-to-chip interfaces.
- Other: Ability to develop technical documentation and design examples; willingness to support hardware bring-up and customer troubleshooting.
Education Requirements
Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, engineering science, computer science, mathematics, or a similar field. Candidates should have at least 3+ months of relevant experience or coursework in areas such as programming/scripting, digital logic, or RTL design (or equivalent practical experience).
