Job Title

FPGA Engineer, LEO KMM FPGA

Role Summary

Design, implement, validate, and release FPGA-based digital solutions for Amazon Kuiper's LEO satellite networking systems. Work with systems, hardware, firmware, and software teams to deliver FPGA bitstreams that implement networking and communication functions.

Experience Level

Mid-level (typical candidate: 5+ years professional engineering experience as indicated in the posting).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities centered on FPGA architecture, implementation, validation, and system integration.

  • Own one or more FPGA bitstreams through architecture, RTL design, synthesis/place-and-route, timing closure, simulation, and lab-based silicon validation.
  • Implement digital logic for networking/communication functions on modern FPGA platforms.
  • Collaborate with system and network architects, HW and FW/SW teams to integrate FPGA designs into complete systems (FPGA, firmware, RF, networking).
  • Build and validate FPGA prototypes to evaluate architecture and design trade-offs.
  • Drive trade-off analyses to optimize cost, size, power, performance, and feature set.

Requirements

Must-have background, export control eligibility, and technical/leadership experience.

  • Export control eligibility: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or refugee/asylee.
  • 5+ years of professional non-internship software or engineering development experience (as specified in the posting).
  • 5+ years programming experience in at least one software language and experience leading design or architecture work.
  • Experience as a mentor, technical lead, or leading an engineering team.
  • Practical experience with FPGA design flows and digital logic implementation (synthesis, timing closure, simulation, lab validation) is expected for this role.
  • Preferred: experience with networking/communication system design and FPGA-based networking functions, and familiarity with full development lifecycle practices (code review, source control, testing, build processes).

Education Requirements

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable per the posting.
