Job Title

FPGA Engineer - LEO KMM FPGA

Role Summary

Design and deliver FPGA-based digital solutions for Amazon's Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications system. Work with systems, hardware, firmware, and software teams to define, implement, validate, and release FPGA bitstreams used for networking functions.

The role owns FPGA implementations across architecture, RTL, physical implementation, timing closure, simulation, and lab validation phases.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” the posting expects approximately 5+ years of relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include end-to-end FPGA design, integration, and validation for satellite networking functions.

  • Own one or more FPGA bitstreams through architecture, RTL design, physical implementation, timing closure, simulation, and lab validation.
  • Create digital designs for networking functions on modern FPGA platforms and toolflows.
  • Collaborate with network and digital communications architects to define and implement FPGA-targeted networking functions.
  • Build FPGA prototypes to validate architecture and design trade-offs.
  • Integrate and test combined systems of FPGA, firmware, RF, and networking components in lab/system bring-up.
  • Perform trade-off analysis to optimize cost, size, power, and performance for customer requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical and policy requirements follow; preferred qualifications are listed separately.

  • Export control eligibility: must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years programming experience in at least one software language.
  • 5+ years leading design or architecture of systems (design patterns, reliability, scaling).
  • Experience as a mentor, technical lead, or leading an engineering team.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with full software development lifecycle practices: coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
