Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA-based solutions for avionics and embedded hardware systems. Work across the full product lifecycle from requirements and RTL design through verification, synthesis, timing closure, hardware bring-up, and production release.
Collaborate with systems, software, hardware, and manufacturing teams within a regulated aerospace development environment.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Minimum: 2+ years of FPGA and/or ASIC development experience.
Responsibilities
Primary engineering responsibilities for FPGA development in avionics products:
- Design RTL using Verilog and/or VHDL for FPGA-based systems.
- Perform verification: simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, and timing closure.
- Execute hardware validation, board bring-up, and system-level troubleshooting.
- Integrate FPGA designs with board-level hardware and firmware/software components.
- Maintain technical documentation, traceability artifacts, and engineering deliverables required for regulated development.
- Participate in requirements definition, design reviews, and test planning through production release.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints; candidates must meet export/work-authorization requirements.
- 2+ years practical FPGA and/or ASIC development experience.
- Proficient in Verilog and/or VHDL.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains and workflows: synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, and closure.
- Hands-on experience with Xilinx FPGAs and Vivado toolset.
- Experience with simulation tools such as ModelSim or Questa.
- Strong analytical skills and board-level debugging experience.
- Familiarity with digital interfaces: SPI, I2C, JTAG, Ethernet, PCIe, and common video interfaces.
- Authorized to work in the United States without restrictions (required for project and export reasons).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in avionics or other safety-critical / regulated systems.
- Exposure to DO-254 or similar structured development and certification processes.
- Experience with requirements-based development, verification processes, and configuration management.
