Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and verify high-reliability FPGA-based digital systems for Oil & Gas applications such as downhole tools, subsea instrumentation, and refinery monitoring. Implement synthesizable VHDL designs optimized for extreme environmental constraints and lead lab validation before field deployment.
Experience Level
Mid-level β 3+ years of FPGA development experience, preferably in industrial automation, subsea electronics, or downhole tools.
Responsibilities
Design, verify, and validate FPGA systems for harsh environments; perform hands-on lab testing and support certification activities.
- Implement synthesizable VHDL optimized for low power and high-temperature stability (targeting extreme environments such as 150Β°C+).
- Lead hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and environmental testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers (ILA/SignalTap), and thermal chambers.
- Develop and test communication interfaces and protocol bridges (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, CAN, or proprietary telemetry).
- Design robust memory interfaces (DDR3/DDR4) and error-correction strategies for large-scale data logging.
- Perform functional, timing, post-synthesis, and post-layout verification using simulators and vendor tools.
- Maintain test documentation and validation records to support safety and industry compliance.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and lab capabilities for ruggedized FPGA development.
- Expert proficiency in VHDL and experience with high-reliability design techniques (TMR is a plus).
- Expert-level use of vendor toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, Lattice/Microchip Libero.
- Proven lab skills in high-speed digital probing, power analysis (e.g., XPE), and hardware/software debugging.
- Experience interfacing ADCs/DACs (JESD204B, LVDS) for precision instrumentation.
- Knowledge of design constraints for battery-operated or power-limited remote systems.
Education Requirements
B.E. or M.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
