Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, implement, verify, and integrate FPGA/CPLD-based hardware for safety-critical aerospace and ground vehicle embedded systems. Work across requirements, RTL development, verification, timing/power analysis, prototype evaluation, qualification testing, and system integration within a hardware engineering team.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical expectation: 5–10+ years of relevant circuit and FPGA design experience; a Master's degree may reduce the required years of experience (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical design, verification, and cross-discipline integration.
- Generate requirements and translate them into FPGA architecture and RTL implementations.
- Develop RTL, perform synthesis, create UVM testbenches, and run functional and timing simulations.
- Perform static timing and power analysis; participate in design reviews.
- Support prototype evaluation, qualification testing, and system-level integration.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure electrical integrity of FPGA designs on circuit cards.
- Support production, obsolescence, and sustainment tasks.
- Maintain and expand technical knowledge in FPGA design and digital hardware engineering.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Strong VHDL and SystemVerilog design skills; experience developing UVM testbenches.
- Demonstrated ability to design HDL-based FPGAs and CPLDs for high-reliability applications.
- Hands-on hardware build, test, and integration experience for embedded systems.
- Experience with MATLAB and Simulink for FPGA code generation.
- Knowledge of digital electronic devices and circuit design principles; familiarity with FPGA integration on circuit card assemblies.
- Experience with design and analysis tools such as Timing Designer.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, written, and oral communication skills; able to work independently and in teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Nice to have:
- DO-254 experience for aerospace safety-critical development.
- Experience with HyperLynx or similar signal-integrity/analysis tools.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is stated. The posting specifies a Bachelor’s degree plus 5–10+ years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience. Fields: Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
