Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and deliver FPGA-based solutions for low-latency options market making systems. Work within a technology team to design, implement, verify, and optimize FPGA logic and the surrounding hardware/software integration that supports algorithmic trading.
This role focuses on high-performance, low-latency engineering, including FPGA design, simulation, verification, and collaboration with software and trading teams to deploy production systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify a years-of-experience requirement but expects prior FPGA development and verification experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and implement FPGA logic (Verilog/VHDL) for low-latency trading applications.
- Develop exchange protocol encoding/decoding and on-card custom logic.
- Integrate hardware and software components, including PCIe-based hybrid systems.
- Perform functional verification, simulation, and static timing closure to meet performance targets.
- Profile and optimize latency- and performance-critical paths.
- Build and validate new hardware platforms and prototypes.
- Collaborate with traders and software engineers to implement algorithmic trading features.
- Identify opportunities for improvement, adopt tools, and improve code quality and team productivity.
- Share expertise and mentor other team members.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills.
-
Must-have: FPGA development experience (Verilog or VHDL), functional verification, and static timing closure.
-
Must-have: Experience delivering complex FPGA and SoC designs.
-
Must-have: Proficiency with C++, Bash, Tcl, and/or Python for development and tooling.
-
Must-have: Familiarity with FPGA design, simulation, and verification tools (examples: Synopsys, Riviera, ModelSim, Questasim).
-
Must-have: Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment with strong attention to detail.
-
Nice-to-have: Exchange protocol encoding/decoding experience.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with PCIe and hybrid hardware/software communication.
-
Nice-to-have: Background in low-latency, high-performance computing and a drive to optimize system performance.
