Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA-based digital signal processing (DSP) logic for communications, RF, and signal-processing systems. Work on hardware bring-up, integration, and lab testing while collaborating with hardware, firmware, software, and systems engineers.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically requires 4β7 years of relevant FPGA/DSP/communications experience.
Responsibilities
Primary hands-on engineering tasks and team collaboration:
- Design, implement, and maintain FPGA DSP logic (filtering, FFTs, modulation/demodulation, synchronization).
- Implement and debug real-time DSP algorithms in hardware and verify timing/functional correctness.
- Integrate FPGA designs with embedded processors and system interfaces using protocols such as AXI.
- Develop supporting firmware/software to command and interface with FPGA modules.
- Perform hardware bring-up, integration, testing, and debugging using RF and digital test equipment in the lab.
- Create simulation environments, testbenches, and verification workflows; analyze throughput, latency, and resource utilization.
- Develop scripts and automation for build and test workflows; follow configuration management and version control practices.
- Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to support system integration and troubleshooting.
Requirements
Core technical requirements and preferred skills.
Must-have:
- 4β7 years of relevant experience in FPGA, DSP, communications, or signal-processing systems.
- Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Vivado (or similar).
- Familiarity with DSP concepts: sampling, filtering, frequency-domain analysis.
- Experience working in a Linux development environment and with Git or similar version control.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with software-defined radio (SDR) platforms or frameworks.
- Experience integrating FPGA logic with embedded processors (e.g., ARM, MicroBlaze).
- Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools.
- Experience developing testbenches and verification workflows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field was requested in the posting.
