Job Title

FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Engineer responsible for FPGA design, verification, and hardware integration for safety-critical aerospace and medical-device programs. Work includes RTL development, simulation, synthesis, timing closure, and system bring-up.

Collaborate with systems, hardware, software, and test engineers on embedded and high-performance digital systems.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role targets candidates with approximately 5+ years of hands-on FPGA design and development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing and validating FPGA-based digital systems and supporting their integration into hardware platforms.

  • Design, develop, and implement FPGA logic using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
  • Own FPGA lifecycle: requirements interpretation, architecture, RTL development, simulation, synthesis, and validation.
  • Develop and execute verification strategies, including testbenches and simulation-based validation.
  • Perform timing analysis, place-and-route, and optimization with tools such as Vivado, Quartus, or Libero.
  • Integrate FPGA designs into boards and support system bring-up and lab validation.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues during development and testing.
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical documentation, and process improvement activities.
  • Support compliance activities for safety-critical standards where applicable (e.g., aerospace or medical standards).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • 5+ years of hands-on FPGA design and development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in HDL languages: VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, or Microchip Libero.
  • Solid understanding of digital design principles, RTL design, and hardware interfaces.
  • Experience with simulation, verification, and debugging tools and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, SPI, etc.).
  • Ability to work from system-level requirements through implementation and verification.
  • Preferred: experience in aerospace or medical device development, familiarity with DO-254 or other safety-critical processes, DSP-on-FPGA experience, C/C++ or Python programming, and SoC/embedded systems background.
  • Strong problem-solving, effective communication, cross-functional collaboration, and attention to detail.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
