Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, verify, and integrate FPGA/CPLD-based digital hardware for high-reliability embedded aerospace and ground-vehicle systems. Work with hardware engineers and program leads through requirements, RTL implementation, verification, prototype evaluation and system integration.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Candidate should have substantial FPGA/HDL experience; the posting expects roughly 5–10+ years of relevant circuit and digital hardware experience.
Responsibilities
Primary engineering activities and ownership areas include:
- Generate requirements, perform RTL design, synthesis, and static timing analysis.
- Develop and maintain test benches and run design simulations (UVM-based testbenches expected).
- Perform power analysis and requirements-based design verification.
- Support prototype evaluation, design reviews, qualification testing, and system integration.
- Provide production and obsolescence support and contribute to design-to-cost tradeoffs.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers and management to enhance and extend applications.
- Build, test, and debug hardware; verify electrical integrity of FPGA integration on circuit cards.
- Contribute engineering estimates for hardware tasks and follow internal development processes and tools.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- Strong experience with VHDL and SystemVerilog for FPGA/CPLD design.
- Experience developing UVM test benches and verification environments.
- Proven ability to design HDL-based FPGAs and CPLDs for embedded systems.
- Knowledge of digital electronic devices and circuit design principles.
- Hands-on hardware build, integration, and lab test experience.
- Experience integrating FPGAs onto digital circuit cards and ensuring electrical integrity.
- Familiarity with tools for timing and signal integrity analysis; Timing Designer and HyperLynx are a plus.
- Experience using Matlab/Simulink for auto-generation of FPGA code.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills; self-motivated.
- Willingness to travel up to ~25%.
- DO-254 experience for aerospace projects is required.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with roughly 5–10+ years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree with ~3+ years of relevant experience. Field: Electrical/Electronic Engineering or closely related technical discipline. (Education and experience equivalency referenced by the posting.)
