FPGA Design Engineer

Role Summary

Silvus Technologies (a Motorola Solutions subsidiary) seeks an FPGA Design Engineer to implement signal-processing algorithms in FPGA-based MIMO wireless networking products. The role is on the FPGA Engineering team and reports to the Director of FPGA Engineering. This position is onsite in Irvine, CA.

Work covers R&D from concept through field deployment, hardware verification, and cross-team integration with RF and software engineering.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically requires 2+ years of FPGA design experience (or equivalent practical experience).

Responsibilities

The engineer will design, implement, and verify FPGA-based signal processing and communication blocks for tactical wireless systems.

  • Architect digital designs for wireless communication projects.
  • Design fixed-point signal-processing blocks in collaboration with systems engineers.
  • Write RTL and develop simulations and test benches.
  • Perform FPGA synthesis and timing closure.
  • Conduct hardware verification and troubleshooting; use logic analyzers.
  • Support RF and software engineering teams during integration and testing.
  • Participate in field testing and deployment activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, legal/clearance conditions, and employment contingencies.

  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated FPGA design experience (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proven experience with multi-clock-domain, high-utilization FPGA designs.
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGAs/SoCs and the Vivado IDE.
  • RTL coding, simulation, and testbench development skills.
  • FPGA synthesis and timing-closure experience.
  • Familiarity with hardware verification and logic analyzers.
  • Proficiency with scripting in TCL or Python.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or permanent resident) due to federal contract requirements.
  • Employment contingent on successful background check and drug test.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field plus a minimum of 2 years of FPGA design experience; OR an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields. Preferred: M.S. in Electrical Engineering. Equivalent practical experience acceptable where specified.
