Job Title
FPGA Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on onboard mission processing for remote sensing payloads, migrating ground-based processing to flight FPGA hardware. The role sits on the APEX team and requires collaboration with research scientists, software engineers, and other FPGA engineers.
Primary focus is implementing algorithms and processor subsystems on FPGA platforms using Vivado, Xilinx Vitis (including HLS), and HDL (VHDL/Verilog).
Experience Level
Mid-level (Experienced Professional). Specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include development, integration, and verification of FPGA-based mission processing subsystems.
- Analyze mission processing C++ code and implement functions for hardware acceleration on FPGAs.
- Design, integrate, and test processor subsystem features and interfaces in FPGA hardware.
- Create FPGA requirements, write HDL or HLS code, and develop testbenches and verification artifacts.
- Use both RTL design (VHDL/Verilog) and High-Level Synthesis (Vitis HLS) workflows to deploy algorithms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring algorithms to flight-ready hardware.
- Support integration and verification on target FPGA platforms and flight hardware.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security, and work-location requirements followed by desirable skills.
-
Must-have: US citizenship and ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance (eligibility for government security investigation required).
-
Must-have: Proficiency in HDL languages (VHDL and Verilog).
-
Must-have: Experience designing with Xilinx Vivado toolchain.
-
Must-have: Ability to work onsite in Boulder, Colorado.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with Xilinx Vitis platform and High-Level Synthesis (HLS).
-
Nice-to-have: Proficiency in C++ and MATLAB, and experience with Matlab HDL Coder or Vitis Model Composer.
-
Nice-to-have: Digital logic design experience and experience interfacing FPGAs with processors.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with FPGA concepts (clock domains, memory hierarchies, routing) and Xilinx platforms and tools.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with embedded software development and embedded Linux environments (e.g., Yocto).
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combined education and experience.
