Job Title
Firmware Engineer - Verilog, Python (On-site/Hybrid)
Role Summary
Develop and maintain firmware for digital hardware (FPGA/ASIC) using Verilog, support system integration and verification, and troubleshoot hardware/firmware issues during bring-up and testing. Work with a multidisciplinary engineering team on a cleared program based in Lexington, MA with a hybrid work arrangement.
Experience Level
Mid-level β approximately 5 years of relevant firmware/FPGA or digital design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, verification, and integration of firmware and supporting test automation.
- Design and implement firmware in Verilog for FPGA/ASIC targets.
- Create and run simulations and testbenches to verify RTL functionality.
- Support system integration, hardware bring-up, and functional testing.
- Debug hardware/firmware interactions and diagnose system-level issues.
- Develop automation and test utilities using Python.
- Use ISE design suite and related toolflows for synthesis, place-and-route, and bitstream generation.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and test engineers and maintain development documentation.
- Follow program security and clearance procedures while working on sensitive systems.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security, and experience for immediate contribution.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance.
- Approximately 5 years of relevant industry experience working with digital firmware/FPGA development.
- Proven experience writing synthesizable Verilog and developing testbenches.
- Proficiency with Python for automation, test scripting, and data analysis.
- Experience with Xilinx ISE design suite or equivalent FPGA toolchains.
- Hands-on experience with system integration and hardware bring-up/testing.
- Ability to work on-site in Lexington, MA with a hybrid schedule.
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills for hardware/firmware interactions.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with additional HDLs (VHDL), advanced verification methodologies, or higher clearance levels.
- Familiarity with board-level debug tools (JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes) and CI/test infrastructure.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is required (as stated in the posting).
