Firmware Engineer (Verilog, Python)
Role Summary
Develop firmware and supporting tools for embedded/FPGA-based systems. Work with hardware and test teams to integrate, validate, and troubleshoot system-level designs.
Position is based in Lexington, MA with a hybrid work option and reports to the engineering team responsible for system integration and verification.
Experience Level
Mid-level (approximately 5 years of applicable experience preferred).
Responsibilities
Primary duties include firmware design, verification, and support for system integration.
- Design and implement firmware in Verilog for FPGA/ASIC targets.
- Develop and maintain Python scripts and testbench code to automate verification and validation.
- Support system integration and hardware/software bring-up activities.
- Troubleshoot firmware, hardware, and integration issues; perform root-cause analysis.
- Use ISE design tools for synthesis, timing closure, and implementation tasks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, test) and participate in design reviews.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation for designs and test procedures.
Requirements
Must-have skills, clearance, and work-location capability.
- Active DoD Secret clearance required.
- Approximately 5 years of relevant firmware/FPGA experience.
- Proven experience coding in Verilog for FPGA or similar targets.
- Proficiency with Python for test automation and tooling.
- Familiarity with Xilinx ISE design suite or equivalent FPGA toolchains.
- Experience supporting system integration, hardware bring-up, and testing.
- Ability to work onsite in Lexington, MA with a hybrid schedule.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-discipline collaboration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is specified.
