Role Summary

The Firmware Engineer develops, tests, and maintains embedded firmware for optical products throughout the full firmware lifecycle. The role collaborates with hardware, manufacturing, and test engineering teams to ensure high performance and reliable device operation.

Provides technical input in architecture and design reviews and supports product bring-up and production ramp.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically requires 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, and debug firmware for optical modules, transceivers, and related products.
• Implement embedded software for microcontrollers, including bare-metal and RTOS-based solutions.
• Develop and execute unit, integration, and system tests to validate firmware quality and robustness.
• Define firmware requirements and interfaces in collaboration with hardware engineering.
• Support product bring-up, debugging, and production ramp with manufacturing and test teams.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and design reviews.
• Analyze and resolve firmware issues, including performance and stability problems.
• Document firmware designs, specifications, and test plans.
• Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in embedded systems and optical networking.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

• 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience with bare-metal development and real-time operating systems (e.g., FreeRTOS).
• Strong understanding of microcontroller architectures (for example, ARM Cortex-M/R) and common peripheral interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet).
• Experience with hardware/software co-design and debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, in-circuit debuggers).
• Experience with version control systems (Git).
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively on cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience in optical networking or telecommunications.
• Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) or control systems.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
