Senior Firmware Development Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and maintain embedded security firmware, device drivers, and software tools used to verify and operate Silicon IP. Work on on-chip firmware, drivers, hardware-abstraction models, and host-side test/verification infrastructure within the Silicon IP Development team in Vught, NL.
The role requires hands-on implementation, performance optimization, and collaboration across hardware and software teams to deliver secure, production-quality embedded software.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 5β8 years of relevant professional engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary day-to-day responsibilities include design, implementation, verification and delivery of embedded security software and associated infrastructure.
- Specify, develop, benchmark, document and maintain embedded security firmware and drivers.
- Implement and refactor code to improve reliability, performance and maintainability.
- Coordinate testing, packaging, secure deployment and delivery of software and production data.
- Perform and participate in code reviews, design reviews and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product architecture and software/hardware interfaces.
- Develop hardware-abstraction models and internal software tools for testing and verification.
Requirements
Applicants should meet the technical must-haves below; a short list of desirable skills follows.
Must-have
- Proven embedded software development experience in security-focused projects.
- Expert-level C++ development skills, preferably on Linux, including object-oriented design and core libraries.
- Experience with multithreaded, real-time application development and high-volume transaction processing.
- Experience optimizing embedded code for performance and resource-constrained environments.
- Familiarity with hardware design, hardware-abstraction modeling and low-level machine/assembly code implementation and debug.
- Practical knowledge of cryptography, key management and general security concepts.
- Experience with agile software development lifecycle (design, development, testing, support) and Linux-based development.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with SystemC/TLM 2.0 for hardware modeling.
- Linux device driver development and Linux host application development experience.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. BS/MS in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering or a related technical discipline is preferred.
