Firmware and Development Tools Intern
Intel CorporationJob Title
Firmware and Development Tools Intern
Role Summary
Join Intel's GPU Firmware Development Team to implement and maintain tools, automation, and CI platforms that support firmware engineering for GPU boards. The internship emphasizes practical software engineering: building web frontends/backends, automation workflows, and firmware test infrastructure, with possible exposure to low-level firmware work.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Intended for current bachelor’s or master’s students; no prior years-of-experience required.
Responsibilities
Work under mentor guidance to deliver tooling and testing infrastructure that improves firmware development efficiency and quality.
- Contribute to firmware build, release, and CI platforms including frontend interfaces, backend services, and databases.
- Develop and maintain automated workflows using GitHub Actions to connect builds, tests, and releases.
- Write Python tools and scripts for development, debugging, testing, and log analysis.
- Configure and use simulators or virtual platforms to create firmware development and test environments.
- Create and maintain firmware test cases and automated test scripts; analyze results and investigate issues.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to improve test workflows and firmware quality.
- As skills and project needs evolve, assist with firmware development and debugging for microcontrollers on GPU boards.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes for successful contribution to tools, automation, and basic firmware tasks.
- Full-stack web development skills: ability to contribute to frontends, backend services, and databases.
- Proficiency in Python and C for tool, script, test case, or basic system development.
- Familiarity with Git and Linux development environments for daily code management and debugging.
- Basic understanding of GPU or embedded system architecture (processors, memory, peripherals, HW–SW interactions).
- Ability to read and write technical documentation in English and communicate in English-language meetings.
- Strong analytical thinking, willingness to learn, and ability to work collaboratively on an engineering team.
Nice-to-have:
- Hands-on experience developing full-stack applications, developer tools, or automation platforms.
- Experience with GitHub Actions, CI/CD, CMake, or software build/release processes.
- Experience with C++ development, embedded software, microcontroller firmware, RTOS concepts, simulators, automated testing, or hardware–software debugging.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled full-time in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or a related science or engineering discipline.
