Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Engineer with Security Clearance
Command Post TechnologiesJob Title
Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Engineer (Secret clearance required/eligible)
Role Summary
Join a team supporting the Hypersonics Projectiles Division at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren to design, implement, and optimize FPGA-based digital systems for high-performance, real-time applications. The role involves developing HDL code, performing verification and timing analysis, and collaborating with hardware, software, and systems engineers to integrate and validate hardware solutions.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires 3–7 years of FPGA design and development experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on FPGA architecture, implementation, verification, and system integration for real-time and high-speed applications.
- Design FPGA-based architectures for real-time, high-speed systems.
- Implement and optimize VHDL/Verilog code for FPGA designs.
- Perform simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, and performance optimization.
- Debug and validate FPGA designs using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
- Develop and maintain FPGA testbenches for functional verification.
- Support system integration, testing, and troubleshooting of FPGA-based hardware.
- Document design specifications, implementation details, and test results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated hardware/software solutions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, clearances, and physical abilities are listed below. Preferred items are grouped under "Nice-to-have."
- Must-have: 3–7 years of hands-on FPGA design experience.
- Must-have: Proficiency in HDL programming (VHDL and Verilog) and FPGA toolchains (e.g., Vivado, Quartus).
- Must-have: Strong understanding of digital logic design, high-speed interfaces, and embedded systems.
- Must-have: Experience with hardware/software co-design and debugging tools (oscilloscope, JTAG, signal analyzer).
- Must-have: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required for Secret clearance at this location.
- Must-have: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform occasional physical tasks (standing/walking for prolonged periods, twisting, bending, squatting).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Xilinx, Intel (Altera), or Lattice FPGA architectures.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of C/C++ or Python for FPGA development and automation.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with SystemVerilog, UVM, or high-level synthesis (HLS); experience in signal processing, high-performance computing, or networking applications.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is specified. The posting also allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree.
