Field Application Engineer Intern (Software)

Role Summary

Join Marvell's technical team in Shanghai (or Suzhou) to support customer firmware and software development for optical modules. The role provides hands-on exposure to PAM4 and coherent DSP technologies, hardware bring-up, lab testing, and firmware/hardware co-debugging under the guidance of senior FAEs.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Intern). Short-term engagement intended for an intern; typical commitment 4–6+ months.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities involve supporting customer firmware work, lab testing, and debugging tasks alongside senior FAEs and application teams.

• Support customer module firmware/software development, including image flashing, configuration, register access, and log collection over I2C/MDIO.
• Develop equipment control scripts and lab automation utilities.
• Assist with product bring-up, TX/RX performance testing, and reproducing/reporting issues.
• Participate in customer support sessions (onsite or remote) to debug and resolve issues.
• Maintain technical documentation, FAQs, and internal training materials.
• Use internal software tools for development, analysis, and debugging; support module control/management and compliance checks (e.g., CMIS 5.x, 8636).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical abilities; additional skills that strengthen candidacy are listed as nice-to-have.

• Must-have: Proficiency in C and Python; able to write small utilities and read/modify embedded code.
• Must-have: Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams and customers.
• Must-have: Availability to commit at least 4–6 months.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with test equipment such as DCA or BERT.
• Nice-to-have: Knowledge of signal and power integrity or experience with simulation tools (ADS, HFSS).

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Masters degree in Software, Computer Science, Electronics / Electrical / Control Engineering, or a related field.
