Field Application Engineer Intern (Hardware)

Role Summary

Internship on the Field Application Engineering (FAE) team based in Suzhou/Shanghai supporting customer engagements for optical interconnect products. Work includes hands-on lab support, hardware/software bring-up and debugging, and collaboration with senior FAEs and the U.S. application team on PAM4 DSP, Coherent DSP, TIAs, drivers and optical module performance.

This role provides practical engineering experience with optical and SerDes technologies under mentor supervision.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Internship. Intended for current Master's or Ph.D. students; no specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Typical duties and day-to-day tasks for this internship:

  • Assist senior FAEs reviewing customer schematics and PCB/layout designs for optical modules involving PAM4 DSP, Coherent DSP, TIAs and drivers.
  • Support signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) simulations.
  • Perform lab activities for product bring-up, evaluation, tuning, performance testing, and debugging under guidance.
  • Join customer support engagements to help diagnose and resolve system-level issues.
  • Help create and maintain technical documentation, FAQs, and internal training materials.

  • Must-have: Strong willingness to learn, effective verbal and written communication, and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Must-have: Availability to commit at least 4–6 months.
  • Must-have: Eligibility to access export-controlled technology as required by U.S. export regulations (export license review may apply).
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity or research experience with high-speed SerDes (PAM4), TIAs, drivers, or optical communication systems.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with SI/PI simulation tools, hardware/software co-debugging, lab testing, or prior exposure to SerDes DSP architectures.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electronics / Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master's and Ph.D. students targeted).
