Job Title

Failure Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

Work in a laboratory environment to identify root causes of electrical failures in Apple products using advanced failure-analysis and debug equipment. Collaborate with global engineering teams to recommend corrective actions and present concise technical findings to stakeholders and executives.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Requires prior experience in electrical design or failure analysis; advanced degree expected (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning and executing investigations, isolating faults, and communicating results.

  • Understand failure background and design investigation plans.
  • Perform investigations and electrical fault isolation using advanced tools (oscilloscope, lock-in thermography, OBIRCH, EMMI, SAT, nano-probe, etc.).
  • Analyze data, determine root cause, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare reports and present findings in global meetings and executive reviews.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to discuss conclusions and next steps.

Requirements

Key must-have and preferred qualifications.

  • Must-have: Experience in electrical design or failure analysis related to consumer electronics or semiconductors.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one advanced failure-analysis/debug tool (examples: oscilloscope, LIT, OBIRCH, EMMI, SAT, nano-probe).
  • Fluent in English with strong communication skills; able to present complex findings concisely.
  • Nice-to-have: Specific failure-analysis expertise for motherboards, electronic components, semiconductor devices, semiconductor or PCB manufacturing; material-analysis tools (SEM, FTIR, FIB); ability to prioritize multiple high-priority tasks; experience collaborating across organizations; software coding experience in AI/ML.

Education Requirements

PhD or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Materials/Chemical Science, or a related field.
