Etch Equipment Field Installation and Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work within the SPTS Equipment Engineering and Development Group to design, install, integrate and commission etch semiconductor process equipment. Provide on-site installation, diagnostics, validation and product improvements for R&D and production systems worldwide.
The role is hands-on and cross-disciplinary, collaborating with process and design engineers and providing field feedback to factory engineering. Significant international travel is required.

Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on equipment build, field installation, fault diagnosis, validation and design improvements.
- Maintain, develop and improve etch semiconductor process equipment hardware.
- Build and fault-find new designs in the factory; perform PLC-related process checks.
- Install and troubleshoot new products at customer sites.
- Report field issues and customer requirements back to the factory engineering team.
- Design wiring harnesses and mechanical components to improve serviceability.
- Plan and execute hardware testing, validation and performance characterisation.
- Ensure machines meet international testing and compliance standards.
- Write technical reports and documentation for installations and issues.
- Support technology development programmes from concept to customer-ready systems.
- Travel internationally approximately 50% of the time, sometimes at short notice.
Requirements
Must-have technical capabilities, practical experience and attributes.
- Experience in equipment design or field service with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical and fault-finding skills across electrical, electronic and mechanical domains.
- Practical experience with AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent; 3D CAD experience is desirable.
- Familiarity with machinery safety regulations; knowledge of EN60204 and EN13849 is preferred.
- Valid driving licence and ability to undertake frequent international travel.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team across time zones.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clear technical reports.
