Job Title

Engineering Technician

Role Summary

Support engineering activities in an RF laboratory by performing RF measurements, maintaining test benches, and assembling and tuning RF circuits and modules. Works closely with engineers and other technicians to produce accurate, repeatable characterization data and to support prototype and test equipment development.

This role requires strong hands-on RF probing and mechanical skills and the ability to work independently on complex assignments.

Experience Level

Support / Mid-level β€” requires significant practical experience (see Requirements for years-of-experience guidance).

Responsibilities

Key day-to-day responsibilities include measurement, test-bench upkeep, and hands-on assembly and tuning:

  • Perform RF network characterization and PCB de-embedding with RF probes.
  • Perform critical on-laminate RF measurements of full modules and probe individual RF path blocks.
  • Set up, maintain, and calibrate RF test benches (network analyzer, power supplies, digital pattern generator).
  • Operate CNC milling machine to expose internal RF probe points on devices under test.
  • Interpret and analyze S-parameter measurements (Smith Chart, log magnitude, phase) to assess data accuracy and precision.
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, or instructions to assemble and test RF circuits and systems; tune circuits to meet specifications.
  • Assist in design, construction, testing, and debugging of test equipment and build harnesses for evaluation boards.
  • Collect, filter, document large datasets and benchmark measurements against reference data.
  • Operate Source Pull benches to perform noise parameter measurements.
  • Solder components on PCBs under a microscope and perform delicate probe work.
  • Contribute across lab tasks and coordinate with other technicians for dependent activities (milling, assembly, etc.).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; items labeled "Nice-to-have" are preferred but not required.

  • At least 6 years of experience performing RF measurements in an engineering environment.
  • Basic understanding of electronic component operation.
  • Knowledge of theoretical RF concepts: S-parameters, impedance matching, transmission line behavior, and electromagnetic fields.
  • Strong mechanical and fine-motor skills for solutions involving small components and delicate RF probes.
  • Proficiency with computers and data collection tools; attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; self-starter who works independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience tuning circuits and optimizing performance to meet customer specifications.
  • Ability to assemble and debug test setups and assist with test-equipment development.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Experience with Spotfire, WinCal, or AutoCAD.
  • Semiconductor device testing experience and RF module assembly skills.

Education Requirements

Associate degree in Electronics or an equivalent degree is required.
