Job Title
Engineer - DRAM, Advanced DRAM and EM Device/Cell Technology
Role Summary
The Device Engineer will define and validate future DRAM device and cell technologies within the R&D DRAM Device and Cell Technology Group. The role focuses on electrical characterization of memory arrays, failure analysis, modeling, and influencing process and material decisions that impact yield, quality, and performance.
Work closely with process integration, design, and product teams in a 300mm R&D environment to translate device physics into manufacturable improvements.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting specifies candidates with an MS plus 5+ years of industry experience or a PhD with hands-on research experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Define and drive device-level electrical specifications for DRAM and emerging memory technologies aligned to product requirements.
- Design, execute, and interpret experiments to optimize cell and access device performance, including materials experiments and new integration schemes.
- Develop physical and electrical models (TCAD and compact models) to identify performance, yield, and reliability limiters.
- Create and improve stress/accelerated test methodologies to evaluate device reliability (TDDB, leakage, variability, endurance) and establish design margins.
- Analyze array-level behavior using probe, parametric, and backend data to root-cause variability and improve yield and cost.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to translate device insights into technology and product improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong expertise in semiconductor device physics (CMOS, diodes, related devices).
- Deep knowledge of mainstream memory technologies, especially DRAM.
- Experience with DRAM array characterization and failure analysis.
- Proficiency in data analysis, DOE, and statistical techniques using tools such as JMP or Python.
- Experience developing electrical/physical models (TCAD or compact modeling) and using advanced materials characterization.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience working across process integration and circuit/architecture domains.
- Demonstrated collaboration skills with multi-functional engineering teams and ability to communicate technical status to management.
- Strong written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
Education Requirements
MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 5+ years of industry experience, or a PhD with hands-on research in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
