Engineer Digital - Level 5 (Linthicum)

Role Summary

Staff Digital Design Engineer responsible for research, design, and development of digital hardware for high-reliability space electronics. Work within the Electrical Design and Analysis section to deliver digital architecture, design, verification, and support for electronic sensor products.

Experience Level

Senior - expects experienced engineers with roughly 10–12+ years of digital electronics design experience (see Education Requirements for degree/experience combinations).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical design, verification, and leadership of digital hardware products.

  • Research, design, and develop digital circuitry and subsystems for space applications.
  • Perform digital component design, modeling, simulation, circuit-level design, verification, and test.
  • Prototype, debug, and integrate complex digital subsystems (FPGA, embedded processors, high-speed interfaces).
  • Translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements and test specifications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to mature circuits into final products.
  • Provide technical direction on programs, solve complex technical problems, and produce innovative solutions.
  • Lead, mentor, and communicate across all levels of the organization; work independently when required.
  • Travel as required (~10%).

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Extensive digital circuit design experience including simulation and schematic capture through test and integration with interfaces such as SpaceWire, Ethernet, RS-422, SERDES, FPGAs, LVDS.
  • Hands-on prototyping and debug experience with complex circuit card/subsystem development.
  • Proven ability to convert system specifications into hardware design and test requirements.
  • Demonstrated team leadership, mentoring, and strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Able to work 100% on-site in Linthicum, MD.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Preferred / Nice-to-have:

  • Top Secret / SCI security clearance.
  • Worst Case Circuit Analysis experience.
  • Signal integrity / power integrity analysis using HyperLynx or Keysight ADS.
  • Circuit card design experience with Siemens Xpedition.
  • Relocation assistance may be available.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline with a minimum of 12 years of digital electronics design experience; OR a Master's degree in a technical field with a minimum of 10 years of digital electronics design experience.
