EDA Tools Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Design and enable hardware design tools, flows, and methodologies for advanced technology nodes. Work with cross-functional engineering teams to create verification platforms and integrate components for end-to-end EDA tool testing and deployment.
Experience Level
Mid-level; typically 3β10 years of relevant experience in CAD software development, VLSI, or Design Enablement.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing and validating tools, platforms, and methodologies to support hardware design and EDA tool adoption.
- Design, implement, verify, and support hardware design tool flows and methodologies for new technology nodes.
- Create and verify hardware designs and assemble design platforms for end-to-end tool testing.
- Develop, test, and analyze engineering design automation tools and scripts to improve efficiency and optimize power/performance.
- Build and maintain platforms, databases, and automation flows for design enablement.
- Collaborate with EDA vendors for tool definition and early testing of next-generation tools.
- Support full-chip integration, layout, timing, clocking, power and performance analysis as required for tool enablement.
- Maintain software development practices including version control, testing, and quality assurance for tool code and scripts.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- 3β10 years of experience in CAD software development, VLSI engineering, or Design Enablement.
- Proficiency in SKILL, Python, and TCL/PERL scripting.
- Knowledge of VLSI concepts and common EDA tool flows (e.g., Cadence, Synopsys).
- Familiarity with custom layout practices.
- Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software optimization.
- Strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and effective communication.
- Familiarity with software development practices: version control, testing, and QA.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to C/C++ or other object-oriented languages.
- Experience with P-cell development and testchip integration.
- Exposure to AI-based applications in EDA tools.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
