Job Title

EDA Tools Hardware Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and enable hardware-focused EDA tools, flows, and methodologies to support Intel design teams and technology node development. Work with internal engineering groups and external EDA vendors to define, test, and deploy solutions that improve design efficiency, power, and performance.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Experience guidance: 6+ years with a Bachelor's, 4+ years with a Master's, or 2+ years with a PhD (see Education Requirements for degree details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing and validating hardware test platforms, improving automation workflows, and collaborating with tool vendors.

  • Design, implement, verify, and support hardware design tools, flows, and methodologies for use across engineering teams.
  • Define methodologies tailored to specific technology nodes and EDA tool requirements.
  • Develop and verify hardware designs and assemble end-to-end design platforms for EDA tool testing.
  • Create, enhance, and maintain platforms, databases, scripts, and tooling to improve automation and repeatability.
  • Analyze and optimize engineering tools and flows to improve efficiency, power, and performance.
  • Build expertise in digital design, verification, physical layout, full-chip integration, power, clocking, and timing.
  • Collaborate with EDA vendors to define, test, and validate next-generation design tools and methodologies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proficiency with commercial EDA tools and design automation methodologies.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, Perl, TCL, or similar).
  • Practical experience in hardware design verification and performance optimization processes.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automation platforms, databases, and test infrastructures.
  • Ability to analyze tool and flow performance and implement improvements.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional and vendor interaction.
  • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience in digital design, structural or physical layout, full-chip integration, clocking methodologies, or prior work with EDA vendors on tool development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is listed as the baseline; Master's and PhD are accepted.
