Job Title

ECE Firmware Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Join the Edge Computing Engineering Group on the Platform and Customer Enabling team to develop Edge reference platforms using Intel client architecture. Work focuses on firmware and embedded software to enable customers and proof-of-concept models for emerging technologies.

Hybrid role based in Guadalajara, Mexico, with hands-on work on firmware, BIOS, board-level firmware and hardware-software integration.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Internship (student intern). Role appropriate for students with at least one year remaining in their degree program.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include developing and validating firmware and supporting platform integration.

  • Contribute to design, development, validation, and debugging of embedded software (BIOS, board firmware, memory systems).
  • Work on system-level modeling, algorithm development, and hardware–software integration within constrained environments (timing, memory, processing).
  • Assist in architectural decisions, validation planning, and performance benchmarking as needed.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and designers to deliver robust firmware solutions.
  • As an intern, learn and apply technical skills through hands-on projects that support team objectives.

Requirements

Must-have skills and eligibility for initial consideration, followed by preferred skills.

  • Must have unrestricted, permanent right to work in Mexico (no visa sponsorship).
  • Practical experience (3+ months) with firmware or embedded software development: C/C++, basic assembly, and scripting (Python or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with digital circuits, microcontrollers/microprocessors, basic embedded systems, and common development boards (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.).
  • Advanced English communication skills.
  • Preferred: knowledge of computer architecture, version control (Git), IDEs, basic debugging tools, oscilloscope/multimeter usage, communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART), RTOS experience, and prior internship or project experience.
  • Willingness to learn, strong ownership, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Education Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems Engineering or related technical field) with at least one year remaining as an active student. Requirements may also be met through a combination of relevant job experience, internship experience, and/or schoolwork or research.
