DSP Specialist FAE (Field Applications Engineer) — West Region
Role Summary
The DSP Specialist Field Applications Engineer provides technical leadership to customers and sales teams to drive adoption and successful deployment of DSP solutions on Altera FPGAs. The role supports customers through design cycles, develops reusable DSP architectures and collateral, and advances DirectRF strategic opportunities.
Experience Level
Level: Senior. Minimum guidance: 10+ years of relevant experience in FPGA digital design and digital signal processing.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities focus on customer engagement, pre-sales support, solution development, and cross-functional enablement.
- Act as the technical interface for customers evaluating or implementing DSP solutions on Altera FPGAs.
- Provide architecture guidance, system-level design recommendations, and performance optimization strategies.
- Collaborate with Sales and FSEs to identify, qualify, and drive DSP-related opportunities.
- Demonstrate and position DSP architectures and tools (e.g., DSP Builder, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Debug and resolve complex system- and application-level issues during design cycles.
- Develop reusable reference designs, demos, and documentation to scale engagements.
- Support DirectRF opportunities with RF+DSP architecture definition and qualification.
- Deliver internal and customer training; contribute to application notes and reference materials.
- Provide technical input for opportunity qualification, prioritization, and tracking of design wins.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role; preferred items noted separately.

Must-have: 10+ years of FPGA digital design experience using tools such as Quartus or Vivado.

Must-have: 10+ years of digital signal processing experience (concepts and applications).

Must-have: Experience with high-level FPGA algorithm development tools (DSP Builder, System Generator, OneAPI).

Must-have: Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or C/C++ for algorithm development and verification.

Must-have: Willingness and ability to travel as required by the position.

Nice-to-have: Familiarity with RF systems, communications, or signal chain design.

Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related electrical/electronic degree; post‑bachelor’s graduate degree is listed as preferred.
