Job Title

Distinguished Engineer - SoC Verification

Role Summary

Lead verification strategy and execution for custom SoC designs in Marvell's Custom Compute Solutions Business Unit, focused on advanced AI/XPU and XPU‑attach programs. This role establishes verification methodology, drives verification execution (DV, emulation, post‑silicon), and builds a local engineering team in San Diego.

This is a foundational technical leadership role responsible for shaping verification processes, collaborating across architecture/design/DFT/PD/firmware/system teams, and delivering customer silicon to schedule and quality targets.

Experience Level

Senior level (Distinguished Engineer). Typical experience guidance from the posting: PhD: ~10–12+ years; Master's: ~12–15+ years; Bachelor's: ~17+ years of related professional experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities of the role include ownership of verification strategy, execution, and team building.

  • Lead design verification (DV), emulation, and post‑silicon validation activities with a zero‑defect mindset.
  • Define verification scope, methodology, test plans, timelines, and verificationbench (TB) architectures.
  • Drive DV environment development (directed and constrained‑random verification) and tool selection/evaluation.
  • Coordinate with Architecture, Design, DFT, PD, Firmware and System teams to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Implement productivity improvements (incremental and forklift changes) and monitor industry verification trends for adoption.
  • Hire, mentor, and retain a high‑performance verification engineering team; define training and development needs.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required. Education degree details are listed separately under Education Requirements.

  • Expertise in SystemVerilog and UVM; experience writing detailed test plans and building sophisticated directed/random verification environments.
  • Strong scripting skills (Python or Perl) and familiarity with EDA verification tools.
  • Object‑oriented design and implementation experience.
  • Proficient with Linux operating systems.
  • Strong programming skills, especially C++; familiarity with ARM assembly.
  • Experience with emulation and post‑silicon validation methodologies.
  • Experience with networking protocols relevant to SoC designs.
  • Proven ability to define verification architectures, lead tool evaluation, and drive team productivity.

Education Requirements

Posting specifies degree and experience combinations: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with ~17+ years of related professional experience; Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with ~12–15+ years of experience; PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with ~10–12+ years of experience.
