Director of Product Engineering, Optics
Role Summary
Lead manufacturing development and continuous improvement for advanced optical products (silicon photonics, pluggable transceivers, light engine / co‑packaged optics). This role spans R&D and high‑volume manufacturing to drive NPI execution, yield, quality, and cost performance.
Manage the optics product engineering team and collaborate with Packaging, Test, Quality, Operations, R&D, and external vendors to deliver production‑ready products from Santa Clara, CA.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 10+ years of product development or product engineering experience; 5+ years people management in a matrixed organization.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing readiness, and sustaining improvements across optics product lines.
- Lead the optics product engineering team delivering transceiver modules and light engine / CPO products.
- Own end‑to‑end NPI and manufacturing solution development for silicon photonics products and sub‑assemblies.
- Define and optimize process flows; deliver alpha/beta builds, reliability qualification, and production release readiness.
- Drive sustaining yield, quality, and cost improvements across multiple product lines.
- Partner with R&D, Packaging, Test, Quality, Operations, and external vendors to resolve NPI, ramp, and yield issues.
- Manage program schedules, resources, and budgets to ensure on‑time product launches.
- Mentor and develop team members; foster collaboration and continuous improvement.

Must-have: 10+ years of product development or product engineering experience involving EE/ME/Optics/firmware integration for volume manufacturing.

Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Optical Engineering, or a related technical field is expected; MS or PhD preferred. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
