Director, Applications Engineering (Silicon)
Role Summary
Lead a global Silicon Field Applications Engineering (FAE) organization that delivers consistent customer outcomes from evaluation through production deployment. The role manages a distributed team and partners with Sales, Program Management, and Engineering to mitigate delivery risk and resolve critical issues.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 12+ years in semiconductor/customer engineering/FAE roles, including 5+ years leading senior technical field teams.
Responsibilities
Accountable for team leadership, operational execution, customer support quality, and escalation governance.
- Lead, coach, and manage a distributed team of ~10–12 Silicon FAEs across regions and time zones.
- Own global execution quality for silicon customer support, evaluation, and deployment workflows.
- Design and operationalize evaluation and deployment processes, staffing models, regional coverage, and on-call/critical-issue frameworks.
- Define and track key metrics (Day‑0 pass rate, time‑to‑first‑result, MTTR/MTTI, critical-issue quality, customer progression to production).
- Partner with Sales, Account teams, Program Managers, and Engineering on account strategy and delivery risks.
- Ensure predictable escalation into L2/L3 with high-quality evidence and timely closure.
- Create technical enablement programs and career ladders for Silicon FAEs.
- Represent field priorities in roadmap, errata, tooling, and support-content decisions.
- Lead executive-level customer engagements for key or high-risk accounts.
Requirements
Must-have experience and competencies.
- 12+ years in semiconductor/customer engineering/FAE roles; 5+ years leading senior technical field teams.
- Proven leadership of globally distributed customer-facing engineering teams.
- Strong background in server silicon/platform bring-up, deployment, and support models.
- Direct experience with server and network infrastructure ecosystem players (hyperscalers, OEM/ODM, cloud, networking).
- Demonstrated ability to operate cross-functionally with sales, product, and engineering at executive and working levels.
- Experience with RACI, lifecycle gates, incident management, and critical-issue governance.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience creating new FAE organizations during business-model transitions and familiarity with Arm-based server ecosystems and Cloud AI infrastructure.
- Experience managing multilingual, multi-cultural teams across US/EU/China/Japan.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science required; MS preferred.
Salary: $323,000–$437,000 per year.
