Job Title
Director, Analog Mixed Signal Design — Optical
Role Summary
Lead technical and people efforts for high-speed optical front-end analog ICs (TIAs, modulator and laser drivers) across SiGe BiCMOS and advanced FinFET nodes. The role drives circuit architecture, cross-functional integration (systems, DSP, silicon photonics), post-silicon validation, and transition to production.
Experience Level
Senior / Director level. Experience expectations listed by degree: Bachelor's +15 years; Master's 10–12 years; PhD 8–10 years.
Responsibilities
Technical and managerial ownership of analog mixed-signal design projects for optical communications.
- Provide technical leadership and direction for optical modulator drivers and transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs).
- Define high-performance broadband analog circuit architectures and interface specifications with DSP and photonics teams.
- Oversee transistor-level design, simulation, and verification in SiGe BiCMOS and advanced FinFET technologies.
- Coordinate with systems, DSP, silicon photonics, package, test and customer teams to meet system requirements.
- Drive post-silicon validation, qualification, and transfer to mass production.
- Manage resources across concurrent projects and ensure timely delivery and quality of deliverables.
- Develop and enforce rigorous design methodologies and CAD/layout practices.
- Mentor and grow engineers at multiple levels; evaluate and manage individual and team performance.
Requirements
Core technical leadership, analog/RF design expertise, and program/team management experience. Degree details are summarized under Education Requirements below.
-
Must-have:
- Proven experience managing teams of analog designers on high-speed broadband projects.
- Deep transistor-level analog design skills and RF/high-speed broadband experience (10+ GHz).
- Experience as chip lead and demonstrated success taking silicon to mass production.
- Strong familiarity with EDA/CAD flows and overseeing analog custom layout.
- Experience with SiGe BiCMOS and/or advanced FinFET process technologies.
- Ability to translate chip-level specifications into architectures and to define interfaces with DSP/optics.
- Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
-
Nice-to-have:
- Direct experience with optical TIAs or optical modulator drivers.
- Experience with AGC loop design, CTLE design, high-precision analog blocks (bandgaps, ADC/DAC), or regulators.
- Familiarity with package and system integration issues for optical interfaces.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments, exercise sound analytical judgment, and align technical work with business goals.
- May require eligibility to access export-controlled information under U.S. law.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with ~15+ years' related experience; Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with ~10–12 years' related experience; PhD in Electrical Engineering with ~8–10 years' related experience. (Degrees in closely related technical fields implied by role requirements.)
