Role Summary

Lead IC Design Engineering for Semtech's Bristol organisation with accountability across partner sites in Europe and North America. Own complex NPI programmes from concept through production while managing and developing engineering managers, team leaders, and individual contributors.

This role combines strategic leadership, technical authority, and cross-functional influence to shape product roadmaps and deliver high-volume analog/mixed-signal semiconductor products.

Experience Level

Senior — requires substantial leadership experience. The posting specifies 10+ years of semiconductor engineering experience with significant engineering management and project leadership.

Responsibilities

Lead cross-functional NPI programmes, manage people and resources, and contribute to technical strategy and standards compliance. Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and manage IC Design Engineering across Bristol and partner locations; direct multifunctional NPI teams (definition, design, layout, validation, product engineering, test, characterisation, reliability).
• Drive programmes from initial concept to full production release; manage schedules, budgets and ISO-governed NPI flows.
• Provide direct and indirect management; mentor and develop people leaders and individual contributors; build engagement, retention and succession plans.
• Define technical strategy and roadmaps; represent engineering in business and budget planning; recommend headcount, structure and tooling.
• Identify specifications, equipment and tooling needs; monitor team bandwidth and implement workload management and restructuring as required.
• Support compliance with corporate and business-unit standards, including ISO and EHS, and cascade strategy across the organisation.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience for immediate impact, followed by desirable experience.

• Must-have: 10+ years in semiconductor engineering with demonstrated engineering management and project leadership experience.
• Must-have: Proven record of taking products from concept to production with market success and positive contribution margin.
• Must-have: Experience developing product families to maximise market coverage and optimise design investment.
• Must-have: Detailed knowledge of signal integrity and markets that require it.
• Must-have: Strong collaboration, influencing, team-building and cross-functional leadership; clear written and verbal communication to technical and business audiences.
• Nice-to-have: Experience in optical communications IC design (laser drivers, TIAs, integrated transceivers), familiarity with FTTH or datacentre interconnect markets.
• Nice-to-have: Experience managing engineering teams across multiple geographies and time zones and operating within a publicly listed multinational technology company.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.
