Job Title

Director, Analog Design

Role Summary

Lead a small analog design team in the Digital Business Unit to develop analog and mixed-signal IP for SoC products. Responsible for technical leadership, portfolio execution, and delivery from architecture through production of oscillators, ADCs, DACs, PLLs, power-management circuits, and low-power architectures.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 15+ years of relevant analog IC design experience, including substantial CMOS SoC development and prior people-management experience.

Responsibilities

The director is accountable for technical leadership, delivery, and cross-functional coordination for analog IP across multiple SoC programs.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small analog/mixed-signal engineering team and set clear priorities.
  • Own delivery of analog and mixed-signal IP from architecture and specification through schematic, verification, layout, characterization, qualification, and production release.
  • Design and oversee key SoC functions (oscillators, ADCs, DACs, PLLs, references, regulators, power-management, low-power control).
  • Drive system-level architecture and partitioning across analog, digital, firmware, and test domains, balancing performance, power, area, cost, and risk.
  • Establish robust design and review practices for modeling, simulation, layout review, verification, and signoff.
  • Partner with digital design, verification, physical design, systems, product, test, process, packaging, and firmware teams to define interfaces and bring-up plans.
  • Lead low-power design strategy including power-domain partitioning, sequencing, retention, and power gating.
  • Manage execution across multiple projects: allocate resources, track milestones, identify risks, and drive closure of critical issues.
  • Support silicon validation, root-cause analysis, yield and reliability improvement, and production corrective actions.
  • Drive IP reuse, scalable architectures, methodology improvements, and influence product and technology roadmaps.

Requirements

Must-have skills and capabilities for immediate effectiveness in the role.

  • Proven people leadership: hiring, coaching, performance management, and retention of analog or mixed-signal designers.
  • Deep transistor-level analog and mixed-signal SoC expertise across several areas such as oscillators, ADCs, DACs, PLLs, references, regulators, and power-management circuitry.
  • Strong system architecture skills to translate product requirements into analog specifications and make power-performance-area-cost tradeoffs.
  • Expertise in low-power design techniques (power gating, sequencing, retention, leakage reduction, wake-up behavior).
  • Mastery of SPICE-based simulation, statistical and corner analysis, noise and stability analysis, extraction, layout review, DRC/LVS, reliability, and design-for-test considerations.
  • Proven program execution: plan and deliver multiple IP and SoC programs under schedule and resource constraints.
  • Cross-functional leadership and influence without sole reliance on direct authority.
  • Track record of silicon bring-up, characterization, failure analysis, and resolving production issues.
  • Ability to align technology choices with product roadmaps and business priorities and communicate clearly with engineers and senior leadership.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred. The posting indicates substantial senior experience (typically 15+ years) in analog IC design including CMOS SoC development.
