Digital Hardware Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Digital Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Join Qualcomm Wireless R&D to design and verify digital hardware for a Test Base Station (TBS) used to validate mobile chipsets. The team focuses on next‑generation physical layer development (including upcoming 6GR) targeting FPGA/SoC implementations.
The role works closely with Systems, RF, Software, and Test engineers to translate system requirements into high‑performance digital designs and support product commercialization.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early Career. Position expects approximately 1+ year of relevant FPGA/ASIC or HDL experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include architecture, implementation, verification, and lab support for FPGA/SoC designs used in test base stations.
- Define and deliver design milestones and documentation with project leads.
- Interpret 3GPP and related wireless specifications and translate them into digital implementations.
- Architect, implement, simulate, synthesize, and verify FPGA/SoC RTL designs.
- Perform on‑target verification and hands‑on lab bring‑up and debugging.
- Present design reviews to cross‑disciplinary teams and support commercialization activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution. Preferred items are listed separately.
- Must-have: 1+ year FPGA or ASIC design experience (RTL/HDL through simulation, synthesis, and on‑target verification).
- 1+ year experience with VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog and associated simulator/synthesis CAD tools.
- Experience in HDL design verification (DV) methodologies.
- Working knowledge of high‑speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, UCIE.
- Familiarity with SoC interconnect standards (AXI/AHB/AMBA/Wishbone/JREG/Avalon).
- Experience working in a Linux development environment and in a product development lab.
- Nice-to-have: experience with FPGA vendor toolchains, signal processing or wireless PHY knowledge, git/version control, Python, C/C++, Matlab, High Level Synthesis (HLS), embedded software (RTOS/embedded Linux), and tooling/agentic AI frameworks to improve productivity.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
