Job Title

Design Release Engineer – Semiconductor

Role Summary

Work on the Compute and Connectivity Design Support Team to create and maintain semiconductor deliverables, processes, and tools. Manage engineering change activity for semiconductor parts, review supplier resiliency plans, produce ECU schematics and component specifications, and support semiconductor initiatives across IT and Purchasing.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role requires approximately 3 years of relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include managing release activities, documentation, and cross-team coordination for automotive semiconductor components.

  • Create and maintain deliverables, templates, and processes for the Design Support Team.
  • Create and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) for GM semiconductor part numbers.
  • Analyze and approve supplier semiconductor resiliency plan submissions.
  • Create and maintain semiconductor catalog items and electronic circuit schematics as assigned.
  • Support GM IT and Purchasing semiconductor initiatives and develop supporting tools.
  • Support or define sourcing strategies and business models relevant to semiconductor components.
  • Coordinate with execution teams to ensure ECU semiconductor component selection aligns with GM strategy.
  • Model GM core values and expected professional behaviors.
  • Work remotely (telecommuting 100%).

Requirements

Must-have experience and technical skills:

  • Minimum three (3) years experience in roles such as Design Release Engineer, Product Design Engineer, Hardware Test Engineer, Hardware Engineer, or a related occupation.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience with automotive component release and change management processes.
  • Experience with product design and development cycles and ECU schematic creation.
  • Experience in hardware validation of ASICs.
  • Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) debugging and PCB thermal validation.
  • Experience creating semiconductor design reference manuals and ECU component technical specifications.
  • Ability to create/manage ECRs and collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, Purchasing, execution teams).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field of study.
