Job Title
Design for Test (DFT) Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for developing and implementing testability solutions for complex digital ASICs, SoCs, and processors. Works with design, verification, and test teams to ensure testability is integrated through the product lifecycle.
This is a remote role; the engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define DFT architecture, verify DFT implementations, and generate test patterns.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical experience guidance from the posting: 5–7 years with a Bachelor's degree, 3–5 years with a Master's, or 0–2 years with a PhD.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include DFT architecture, implementation, verification, and test generation. Additional responsibilities:
- Design and simulate circuits at transistor level to meet architecture and requirements.
- Develop and implement DFT architecture and scan/ATPG strategies for digital ASICs/SoCs.
- Perform testability analysis and generate test patterns.
- Develop and maintain DFT methodology and verify DFT features in design flows.
- Optimize hardware for performance, power, and cost; evaluate feasibility of algorithms in hardware.
- Contribute to system-level design, floor-planning, and physical layout guidance.
- Document and teach best practices, mentor less-experienced engineers.
- Support proposal and business development activities as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security, and workplace abilities.
- Proven experience developing and implementing DFT solutions for digital ASICs, SoCs, or processors.
- Proficiency in integrated circuit design and testability concepts (DFT/scan, ATPG, test pattern generation).
- Strong understanding of semiconductors and computer architecture.
- Ability to write clear, detailed design specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience managing or leading small technical teams and mentoring engineers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and drive solutions when requirements are unclear.
- Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred; PhD acceptable. The posting specifies experience equivalencies: 5–7 years with a Bachelor's, 3–5 years with a Master's, or 0–2 years with a PhD.
