Job Title
Design for Test (DFT) Engineer
Role Summary
The DFT Engineer develops and implements testability solutions for complex digital ASICs, SoCs, and processors. The role partners with design, verification, and test engineering teams to ensure products are designed for testability and that test-related issues are resolved throughout development.
Work includes DFT architecture and implementation, testability analysis, methodology development, verification, and test pattern generation.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically requires 5β7 years' experience; exact expectations vary by educational level.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include delivering DFT solutions across design phases and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Define and implement DFT architecture for digital ASICs, SoCs, and processors.
- Develop testability features and generate test patterns.
- Perform DFT verification and testability analysis.
- Design and simulate circuits at transistor level and contribute to system-level design decisions.
- Optimize designs for performance, power, and cost; evaluate hardware feasibility of algorithms and requirements.
- Contribute to floorplanning and physical layout activities and simulate with extracted parasitics.
- Document and teach best practices; guide less experienced engineers.
- Support proposal and business development activities as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional abilities for this role.
- Proven experience in DFT architecture, implementation, and test-pattern generation for digital ASICs/SoCs.
- Proficiency in integrated circuit design and understanding of semiconductors and computer architecture.
- Experience with transistor-level simulation tools and DFT verification methodologies.
- Ability to produce detailed design specifications and to drive solutions independently for complex problems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, written and verbal communication skills; ability to lead or manage small technical teams.
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. Master's degree preferred. A PhD is accepted and may qualify with reduced experience expectations (PhD holders noted at 0β2 years' experience in the posting). No specific certifications were listed.
