Design Engineering Intern
Role Summary
Work with the Cadence Tensilica CPU Processor R&D team in Cork to implement and verify microprocessor cores and related subsystems. The role focuses on RTL implementation, simulation, synthesis flows, and collaboration with verification and EDA teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship suitable for current students or recent graduates; no prior full-time experience required.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Implement micro-architecture in Verilog RTL for processor cores, multiprocessor subsystems, and peripherals.
- Simulate and debug RTL behavior; write functional diagnostics and testbenches.
- Run synthesis, place & route, and other EDA scripts to meet timing, area, and power targets.
- Develop and execute test plans; analyze coverage and debug failures.
- Collaborate closely with Design Verification and EDA teams to integrate and validate designs.
Requirements
Key skills and experience:
- Strong understanding of digital design fundamentals and micro-architecture concepts.
- Hands-on experience with Verilog RTL development and RTL simulation.
- Automation/scripting skills (Tcl, Perl, shell) for EDA flows.
- Familiarity with synthesis and place & route processes and related debug methodologies.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: exposure to design automation tools and experience with processor cores or DSP applications.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar major.
