Job Title
Customer Projects Hardware Engineer β Aerospace, Defense & Government (ADG)
Role Summary
Deliver customer-specific FPGA-based hardware solutions for aerospace, defense, and government customers. Work with cross-functional teams (FPGA, software, systems) to design, validate, and deploy ruggedized, mission-critical systems.
Candidates must be within a commutable distance of the Altera New Jersey (Hazlet) or New Hampshire (Portsmouth) office once established.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical expectation: 6+ years of experience in hardware design, development, or system integration.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on board- and system-level hardware engineering for customer projects and reference platforms.
- Design, develop, and validate board- and system-level hardware for ADG customer projects.
- Translate customer system requirements into hardware architectures and implementation plans.
- Provide schematic and layout guidance; support PCB integration and board bring-up.
- Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation in lab and customer environments.
- Analyze signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), and timing for high-performance designs.
- Integrate and validate high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, DDR) and FPGA subsystems.
- Create technical documentation, validation plans, and customer-facing collateral.
- Troubleshoot system-level issues in ruggedized, mission-critical environments.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security, and location requirements.
- 6+ years of hardware design, development, or system integration experience.
- Practical RTL experience and board-level hardware design knowledge.
- Experience with schematics, hardware bring-up, lab debugging, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
- Familiarity with FPGA-based systems and their integration into larger platforms.
- Experience with high-speed digital interfaces (DDR, PCIe, Ethernet).
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance as a condition of employment.
- Located within commutable distance of the New Jersey or New Hampshire office once established.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or government programs.
- Familiarity with Altera FPGA platforms and toolchain, ruggedized hardware design, SI/PI analysis, embedded systems, and HW/SW co-design.
- Experience in customer-facing or applications engineering roles.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
