Job Title

CPU RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and optimize register-transfer-level (RTL) logic and microarchitectural features for next-generation CPU cores. Work on CPU IP blocks, cell libraries, and functional units that integrate into full-chip designs.

Collaborate with architecture, verification, and SoC teams to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Experience guidance: Bachelor's degree with 6+ years, Master's degree with 4+ years, or PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include RTL design, microarchitecture implementation, and cross-team integration.

  • Write and optimize RTL (Verilog / V2K / SystemVerilog) for CPU features and functional units.
  • Perform logic optimization to meet timing, power, and area targets.
  • Develop and run RTL simulations and participate in logic debug activities.
  • Document microarchitectural specifications (MAS) for designed CPU features.
  • Collaborate with SoC customers and integration teams to ensure correct CPU IP behavior in full-chip contexts.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to be considered for the role.

  • Proficiency in RTL design and hardware modeling using Verilog, V2K, or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with energy-efficient and low-power logic design and high-frequency optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with static timing analysis, cross-clock-domain crossing issues, UPF, and lint checks.
  • Scripting proficiency in Python, Perl, or TCL for automation and tooling.
  • Strong logic debug skills and familiarity with RTL simulation flows.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with Intel Architecture ISA and x86 assembly language.
  • Background in high-speed datapath and circuit optimization, circuit planning, and timing convergence.
  • Experience with CPU architecture fundamentals and system-level integration.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years of work experience; OR Master's degree in the same fields with 4+ years of work experience; OR PhD in the same fields with 2+ years of work experience. (Degrees and years specified in the posting.)
