Job Title

CPU Memory Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver full-custom and compiler-based embedded memories (SRAM, ROM, register files, caches, custom arrays) and associated digital circuits for Intel CPU and SoC products. Work within the CPU Circuit Technology team to develop memory IP, optimize power/performance/area (PPA), and support implementation on advanced CMOS nodes.

Collaborate with circuit, layout, verification, and systems experts to characterize, simulate, and drive memory circuit innovations and production-ready collateral.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience expected: roughly 3+ years in memory or VLSI circuit design (the job posts examples of 3–4+ years depending on degree).

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop SRAMs, ROMs, multi-ported register files, caches, and custom memories (full-custom and compiler-based).
  • Perform circuit characterization, large-signal and timing simulations, and critical-path analysis to meet PPA targets.
  • Optimize memory and peripheral circuits for power, performance, and area trade-offs.
  • Participate in memory path-finding, bit-cell and periphery IC design, and layout-aware trade studies.
  • Develop and refine design methodology, automation flows, and IP deliverables.
  • Coordinate across cross-functional teams to meet project schedules and technical readiness milestones.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred skills:

  • Must-have: Proficiency in CMOS circuit design, digital logic optimization, and trade-off analysis for power, performance, and area.
  • Must-have: Experience with VLSI circuit design methodologies and memory circuit development.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with low-power implementation techniques and memory-specific layout trade-offs.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with EDA/design-for-memory tools, flows, and signal integrity analysis.
  • Nice-to-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize work in a dynamic engineering environment.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a STEM-related field with ~4+ years' experience; or Master's degree with ~3+ years' experience; or PhD. Fields referenced: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other STEM disciplines. (This posting lists degree-plus-experience options rather than a single degree requirement.)
