Compiler Engineering Intern
Intel CorporationJob Title
Compiler Engineering Intern
Role Summary
Contribute to LLVM-based compiler and runtime projects that enable heterogeneous computing on Intel CPUs and GPUs. Work with compiler and hardware engineers on scoped projects involving front ends, intermediate representations (MLIR), optimization, code generation, runtimes, testing infrastructure, or developer tooling.
Hybrid role based in Gdansk that involves collaborating with mentors, contributing to open-source ecosystems where applicable, and delivering tested, production-quality compiler features.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for current undergraduate or master's students; must be able to maintain student status for at least 1 year.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities for the internship project include:
- Design, implement, test, and analyze compiler or runtime features.
- Develop and debug C/C++ code within a large, collaborative Linux codebase.
- Create and improve tests, reproduce defects, and analyze failures to deliver reliable solutions.
- Evaluate functional correctness, compile-time behavior, runtime performance, and code quality as applicable to the project.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and project planning with mentors and team members.
- Document designs, experiments, results, and present project outcomes to the team.
- Contribute to aligned open-source projects when appropriate.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills for successful candidates.
- Must-have: Programming experience in C or C++; experience using development and debugging tools in a Linux environment.
- Must-have: Coursework or project experience in data structures, algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, programming languages, or compiler construction.
- Must-have: Ability to analyze and debug software, create tests, and work within a collaborative development workflow (Git, code reviews).
- Nice-to-have: Compiler-related experience (parsing, intermediate representations, optimization, code generation, runtimes) and familiarity with LLVM, MLIR, Clang, Flang, SYCL/DPC++, Triton, OpenMP, or CUDA.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of CPU/GPU architecture and heterogeneous computing; GPU compute kernel experience.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with AI frameworks (PyTorch), inference engines, ML ecosystems, automated testing, continuous integration, performance analysis, or open-source contributions.
- Personal: Curiosity, strong analytical and debugging skills, clear written and verbal communication, and ability to work independently with guidance.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Informatics, or a related technical discipline; must be able to maintain student status for at least 1 year.
