CAD Engineer
Role Summary
Broadcom Central Engineering seeks a hands-on CAD Engineer to develop and support CAD tool flows for advanced process nodes. The role focuses on daily design/layout support, tool environment maintenance, and productivity utilities for chip design teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level. The role typically expects candidates with about 2+ years of relevant experience in CAD/tool support or chip design environments.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day CAD tool and layout support, develop utilities to improve productivity, and coordinate with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Provide hands-on daily support for design and layout issues.
- Develop, maintain, and support productivity utilities and CAD tooling environments.
- Interact with EDA vendors, PDK development, and process technology teams to resolve issues.
- Create documentation and deliver hands-on training to design engineers.
- Support QA activities related to CAD tool releases, testing, and user support.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience relevant to CAD tool development and support.
- Proficient programming skills; experience automating CAD tasks and developing utilities.
- Experience with the SKILL programming language for layout environment customization.
- Creation and maintenance of CAD PDK environments, including tool installation and layout customization.
- Familiarity with EDA tools and flows for advanced chip design.
- Exposure to physical verification flows (DRC, LVS) and circuit simulation tools.
- Experience with QA flows, creating QA test cases, and developing QA infrastructure.
- User-level familiarity with common CAD tools (for example, Calibre and Virtuoso Layout).
- Strong communication, presentation, and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
Nice-to-have: experience using AI tools for code generation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is required; the posting specifies this degree requirement plus 2+ years of relevant experience.
