Job Title
ASIC Physical Design, Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Staff-level engineer on the ASIC Physical Design team based in Yerevan. Responsible for physical implementation, timing closure, and delivery of complex ASIC blocks and chips.
The role collaborates with RTL authors, verification, backend signoff teams and EDA tool teams to produce silicon-ready layouts and ensure schedule and quality targets are met.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff engineer). Years-of-experience guidance not specified in the source.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities for this role include:
- Lead physical implementation tasks: floorplanning, placement, clock planning, CTS, routing and ECOs for complex ASIC blocks.
- Drive timing closure and optimization, perform static timing analysis and collaborate on signoff criteria.
- Develop and maintain physical design flows and automation scripts (e.g., Tcl, Python) to improve productivity and repeatability.
- Work with EDA tools (place-and-route, STA, signoff) to identify root causes and implement fixes.
- Coordinate with RTL, verification, DFT, and packaging teams to meet tapeout schedules.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on design-for-manufacturability and power/performance trade-offs.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred competencies based on the role (source did not list explicit requirements; these are typical for the position):
-
Must-have: Practical experience in ASIC physical implementation, timing closure, and signoff flows.
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience with industry EDA tools for place-and-route and STA.
-
Must-have: Scripting skills (Tcl, Python, or similar) and experience working in Linux-based tool environments.
-
Must-have: Strong debugging skills, ability to analyze timing and physical issues and drive fixes to completion.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with advanced node design, low-power techniques, and mixed-signal or physical verification flows.
-
Nice-to-have: Prior leadership of multi-team delivery efforts or mentoring experience.
