ASIC Physical Design Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Lead block- and chip-level physical design activities from netlist to final implementation (RTL to GDSII). Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers while working with RTL, STA, DFT, packaging, and signoff teams to deliver high-quality ASIC/SoC solutions on schedule.
This role focuses on improving physical design efficiency through methodology and automation and resolving implementation and tool-flow issues for complex designs.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of physical implementation tasks, cross-functional coordination, and improving automation and methodology.
- Lead block- and chip-level physical design from netlist through final implementation (RTL to GDSII).
- Drive floorplanning, power planning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and physical verification.
- Optimize designs for timing, power, area, congestion, and signal integrity.
- Partner with RTL, STA, DFT, packaging, and signoff teams to achieve implementation and closure goals.
- Develop and improve automation scripts and physical-design methodologies.
- Investigate and resolve design, tool, and flow issues throughout implementation.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the team.
Requirements

- Proven experience in ASIC physical design and implementation at block and chip level.
- Hands-on knowledge of the full physical design flow, including floorplanning, CTS, routing, timing closure, and signoff support.
- Experience with advanced process nodes and complex SoC integration challenges.
- Strong understanding of STA, IR drop, EM, and physical verification concepts.
- Proficiency with implementation and signoff tools such as Synopsys ICC2/Fusion Compiler, PrimeTime, or equivalent.
- Scripting ability in Tcl, Python, Perl, or similar to automate flows and improve productivity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated mentorship or technical leadership experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
